The Teacher’s Voice was founded as an experimental hardcopy literary magazine on December 23, 2004 and is now free and online. We publish creative nonfiction, poetry, short stories, and essays that reflect the many different American teacher experiences. We ask to see critical creative writing that takes risks without being overly self-indulgent or inaccessible.
We are a loose nonprofit collective of educators and students that receives no state, federal, or corporate funding. Every dollar donated by individuals and raised through poetry contests is used to pay for contest, hardcopy, advertising, website, and all other magazine expenses.
This year, we are going to release our second annual Teacher's Voice Chapbook Contest selection as well as last year's runner-up, a "Best of 2008" chapbook, and other limited press collections if funds allow.
Since we publish open as well as theme issues (that require enough thematic pieces to be compiled) and do rely on readership financial support, our publishing schedule and format may vary from year to year. Our production goal is to showcase strong cohesive collections that support our mission and satisfy the needs of particular issues. For the moment, our new focus on electronic publishing is a matter of survival that offers many new possibilities and opportunities in keeping with the changing times.
Our deepest thanks to all the contributors, volunteers, advisors, readers, friends, and family members that have warmly given their support in many ways.
